Final Friday Film Event: The Adventure Lovers Sept 25 in Wichita

Martin and Osa Johnson, Kansas’ own exploring duo, were best known around the world as “The boy and girl next door who made movies far away” during the 1920s and 30s. Their legacy of motion pictures and unprecedented wildlife photography continue to draw the interest of international scholars as well as the general public. People around the world still thrill to the romance and adventure that mark the Johnson’s lives thanks to public programs designed by the Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum in Chanute, KS.

On September 25, Final Friday audiences will get to experience the excitement of seeing Martin and Osa’s story on the silver screen once more at the Downtown Senior Center in Wichita. This film celebration, hosted by Senior Services, Inc. of Wichita, will begin at 6 p.m. when doors will open for a short reception. There will be introductions and a documentary film will start at 6:45 p.m. The curator of the Safari Museum, Jacquelyn Borgeson Zimmer, will present a brief talk on the Johnsons and discuss exhibition photographs and artifacts from the museum during the pre-show reception and will take questions from the crowd after the film screening.

Adventure Lovers, the English language version of the French “Les Amants de l’Aventure” will be the featured presentation of this evening. Shot on location in Africa, New York and Kansas, this was the first full length documentary produced on the life and times of the Johnsons. Safari High Tea Sunday, October 11, 2015

Our annual Safari High Tea will be on Sunday, October 11, 2015 at the Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum from 12:30 to 2:00pm!

The theme this year is “Books” to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Osa Johnson’s I Married Adventure. We’re pleased to announce that this year our featured musical entertainment will be the mellifluous piano stylings of Grace Romain Stacy.
