Adventure Duck Race August 5, 2017

Adopt a Duck…Compete for Prizes…Make Learning a Lifetime ADVENTURE!

This year, the Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum will conduct its 3rd annual “Adventure Duck Race” fundraiser. The idea is simple—”adopt” a rubber duck and join us at the Maring Aquatic Center on Saturday August 16th at 10am to watch a whole bunch of rubber ducks race down the Lazy River!   The event will start at 10am with the official Adventure Race to begin by 11:00.  Duck Racer sponsors do not need to be present to win, but we hope you’ll turn up for a “quacking” good time.

Admission to watch the event will be $1 per person; admission is free to any and all who have purchased at least one racer. Duck adoptions and sales are ongoing and the cost is $5 each or a “Quack Pack” of 5 Racers for $20.  The adopted and numbered racers stay at the museum and come in two sizes.  This year, the museum is also selling the larger ducks ahead of the race so they can be decorated.  The cost is the same as the numbered ducks, but there will be a race entrance fee at the gate of $1 per decorated duck.  Decorated ducks must be at the gate no later than 10:30 & the only ducks that are eligible to hit the water are those that have been purchased at the Safari Museum.

The museum will also be offering a limited collection of “Safari Race Ducks” that businesses and individuals can adopt for $25 to participate in a special Sponsor Only pre-Race.  All race revenue goes to the Johnson Legacy Education Fund that keeps our free student and family events FREE.

“Unfortunately when budgets need to be cut, the hardest hit audit lines tend to be those that directly affect individuals and families who have the smallest resources to spare,” says Safari Museum Curator Jacque Borgeson Zimmer. “The Johnson Education Fund was started specifically to make sure we can continue to provide the services that are always the first eliminated when financial down turns and budget crunches come. Every single dollar raised equals one student, aged Pre-school through College, touring the museum for free. So for just a buck, anyone can help us make learning a lifelong adventure.”

Local sponsors and private donors have covered the cost of this event plus the Top Race Prizes which will be announced closer to Race Day.  Please contact the museum at 620-431-2730 if you would like to sponsor this event or adopt an Adventure duck today!
