...The black and white 1937 Morro Films 75 minute feature shot by Martin and Osa Johnson...It recounts the 50,000 mile "Flying Safari" the Johnsons undertook as they flew their Sikorsky amphibian airplane (the giraffe-colored Spirit of Africa) over the remarkable rainforests of British North Borneo (known today as Sabah).
...This film was the Johnsons' "Last Adventure" together as Martin was killed in a commercial plane crash in Burbank, California as he and Osa were enroute to Hollywood to provide narration and final edits on this film...As Osa was seriously injured in this same crash, famous journalist and life-long Johnson friend Lowell Thomas provides the films overall narration.
...Famous shots from Borneo include the first ever aerial pictures of the top of Borneo's highest peak, Mt. Kinabalu, Martin and Osa's gobong canoe safari on the Kinabatangan river which lead them into the remotest regions of the Bornean rain forests, and some of the most amazing animals---orangutans, flying snakes, walking fish, and the first ever images of the rare Proboscis monkey---they ever photographed in their 27 years of wildlife filmmaking.
